WHO IS MR. MONTALVO

A little bit about me...

Orlando Montalvo was born and raised right here in Mission, Texas. I graduated from Mission High School, and went to college at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. I graduated Cum Laude with a Biology B.S. degree and a Chemistry minor. I earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Education at UTPA in May 2015. This is my 26th year teaching. I have taught both junior high and high school.

On a personal note, I am married and have 3 children ages 21, 18, and 14. Besides hanging out with my family, I enjoy running! I have run in several 5K, 10K, 25K, and 30K races, 4 road marathons, 5 trail marathons, four 50K trail ultramarathons, 2 60K night trail ultramarathons, three 50 mile and a 100K (62 mile) trail ultramarathon. This past New Year's Eve I finished my 4th 100 mile trail race in Houston, Texas. My wife Kathy and I finished this race together for the second time. As far as I know, we are the only husband and wife team in the Valley to accomplish this feat. This year I plan on running 150 miles in that race.

I also dabble with weightlifting, playing golf, playing drums, photography, and pretty much anything that deals with technology. I am technically bilingual, meaning I can work on both PC and MAC systems. I also love to work with video editing, music editing, and Photoshop.

One of my greatest teaching achievements was to win the El Paso Corporation Teaching Award in 2010. This award is specific to Science teachers in Texas.

Something new and cool...I was selected from over 300 FIRST robotics coaches around the country to be a part of a special leadership program with the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. Only 24 of us were chosen (only two from Texas). This was a lot of fun!
