Joining us at the start of the 2020-21 school year was Mr. Patrick Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt is a Honors graduate from the newly constructed Texas A&M University-Kingsville School of Music, having earned his Bachelors of Music in Instrumental Education and Trombone Performance, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During his time at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, he tutored students in music theory courses, presented several research projects in collaboration with the Honors College, rehearsed the 200+ member 'Pride of South Texas' Javelina Marching Band, and conducted the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Trombone Choir for several concert performances. 

Born in Matamoros, Mexico, and raised in Brownsville, TX, Mr. Schmidt is excited to return to the Rio Grande Valley to educate young minds through music. He will be instructing the trombone, euphonium, and horn studios at Sharyland High School, directing the Symphonic Band & Jazz Orchestra, and teaching beginner brass classes at Martinez & Bentsen Elementary.  In his spare time, Mr. Schmidt enjoys arranging and composing music, playing video games and trading card games, traveling and tasting local cuisine, and relaxing at home with his wife, Ashley, and son, Collin.
