Rationale:

Students will be introduced to the English acquisition as well as to literacy skills needed for listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These literacy skills also include such things as awareness of the sounds of language and the relationship between letters and sounds as well as vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension. Students will be provided with adapted literary selections that follow and are aligned to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) which will prepare them to take the English I End of Course (EOC) assessment. Activities will help students transfer and use prior knowledge from their native language to the new one. They will also be exposed to sheltered instruction, cooperative learning grouping, and guided instruction to ensure their second language learning process be a successful one and to meet their needs.

Grading Policies:

Major Assignments: 60% (Tests, reports, research papers, projects/presentations, essays)
Minor Assignments: 40% ( Homework, quizzes, daily participation)
