Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Little Portable Libraries
Sharyland High School Librarian Nicole Cruz and CTE (career technical education) teachers Raul Garza and Daisy Arzamendi Riser collaborated on an Sharyland ISD Education Foundation Grant application last year.  The purpose of the grant was to construct two portable little libraries to be located in the 400 building and the 200 building.  The goal of these little libraries is to provide access to books, magazines, and SEL social emotional learning pamphlets of interest to students and to promote literacy across two high school campuses in multiple buildings.
SISD Education Foundation Chairperson Sarah Samaniego told Mrs. Cruz, "This grant was one of our favorites from all the applications last year.  We loved it so much-we doubled the amount."  This year Raul Garza and new CTE teacher Juan Vasquez and their construction and architecture CTE students will construct two more portable little libraries for the two Sharyland ISD junior high schools with the additional funds provided by the Sharyland ISD Education Foundation.
On Thursday, August 24th, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially open the little libraries.  At the ceremony Rihanna Cavazos, Skills USA District 13 Secretary and Sharyland High School FFA President, thanked the Sharyland ISD Education Foundation for making this project possible.  Librarian Nicole Cruz stated, "Reading is among our greatest freedoms. We believe that every American community must guard the freedom to publish, circulate, and preserve its own freedom to read.  These little libraries ensure that literature is made available in all areas of our campus."
